Michael Steele reminisces over being kicked out of school

It’s no wonder the Republican party is in shambles; Republican National Committee Chairman Michael Steele can’t stop bragging about how he was kicked out of John Hopkins University when he was a freshman!  Expect Steele’s tenure at the RNC to be short-lived…

Turn off your lights for Earth Hour!

Lights are scheduled to go out tonight from 8:30 p.m. to 9:30 p.m. in more than 2,000 cities around the world.  Organized by the World Wildlife Fund, Earth Hour aims to raise awareness about climate change and global warming.  The World Wildlife Fund hopes to inspire one billion people, regardless of what country they live in.

While an hour without power is certainly feasible, I’ll kick it up a notch: I challenge everyone to join me and turn off your electricity for TWO HOURS!

Michele Bachmann pushes free speech limits

Congresswoman Michele Bachmann, a Republican representing the wacky people of Minnesota’s sixth congressional district, renowned for her appearance on Hardball with Chris Matthews in which she called for the media to investigate anti-American members of Congress, recently declared that she wants her constituents “armed and dangerous” in response to President Obama’s cap-and-trade proposal to reduce carbon emissions.  Bachmann, quoting Thomas Jefferson, claimed that “having a revolution every now and then is a good thing.”  It’s hard to believe that the First Amendment protects speech advocating for people to take up arms and become dangerous…

Here’s the audio clip:

For a better perspective on what police consider “armed and dangerous,” check out this video of a SWAT team open-firing on a drug dealer after he attempted to run down two officers in his car:

According to Captain C.W. Jensen, “a SWAT team will be called out in high-risk warrants when the suspect is… known to be armed and dangerous.”  By law enforcement standards, Bachmann and her supporters who take up arms and become dangerous will inevitably be stopped with a hail of bullets, quite similar to the drug dealer’s fate.  So technically, Bachmann said she wants her constituents to get shot by a SWAT team…

And naturally, I can’t resist posting Bachmann’s famous appearance on Hardball.  Enjoy!

Obama: Crisis Is A Time Of “Great Opportunity”

In his weekly YouTube address, President Obama announced more sobering economic news, but managed to strike an optimistic tone when he asserted that the current economic crisis presents an opportunity to “not only endure, but to prosper.”  Among the President’s top priorities is health care.  “Our ideas and opinions about how to achieve this reform will vary, but our goal must be the same: quality, affordable health care for every American that no longer overwhelms the budgets of families, businesses and our government,” Obama said.

Crist defends stimulus on Meet the Press

Kudos to Florida Governor Charlie Crist for embracing President Obama’s economic stimulus plan.  On Sunday, February 22, the Republican appeared on Meet the Press, acknowledging that the American Recovery and Reinvestment Act of 2009 is not a perfect bill, but “to do nothing certainly is not acceptable.”

Congressional Republicans could learn a thing or two from Governor Crist…
